30.08.12 Troubled weekend

With another podium finish, Porsche Kremer Racing continued its successful season on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This success is partly due to constant development work during the season.

At the 44th "ADAC Barbarossapreis" , Wolfgang Kaufmann and his team mates had paddle shift and traction control at their disposal in the Porsche 997 GT3 KR for the first time.

In typically treacherous Eifel weather and mixed track conditions, Kaufmann was able to put the Porsche on the second best starting position in the SP7 category. On the overall grid, this meant position 11 for the professional racer from Molsberg and his team mates Dieter Schornstein und Florian Fricke.

Start driver Wolfgang Kaufmann and Kremer Racing tried new tactics in the initial stint of the race by calling Kaufmann in for a refuelling as early as after four laps, then sending him out for a long sting. In the lead, Kaufmann handed the Porsche over to Dieter Schornstein. After over four hours, Florian Fricke crossed the finish line only three seconds in arrears of the class winner. "Some small things did not go perfectly well today. To be down by only three seconds in the end is especially bitter. We had a misunderstanding at an overtaking manoeuvre at the end of a yellow flag area, one less-than-perfect pit stop, and in the end could not find our way past the leading Porsche. Together we have won the two most important races of the year, and together we have missed out on the win today", said a pensive Kaufmann after the race.

The next race on the agenda for Kaufmann is the 24 Hours of Zolder, with a C/N sportscar: "the race at Zolder is the only 24h race I have never taken part in. I will be driving a Wolf GB08 sportscar, perfectly prepared by Belgian team Guess Racing Europe."
